ABOUT PAUL MINGAY

paul-mingay-portrait.jpg

Singer-Songwriter • Americana/Folk

Paul was born and raised in Markham and now divides his time between Uxbridge and Toronto. He has performed in and around York Region, including appearances at Wintersong Music Festival, Fridays at the Foster at the Foster Memorial, and the Stouffville Strawberry Festival. He regularly performs at open mics in the area as well.

Paul has been playing guitar and writing songs since he was a teenager and has begun to actively record and perform his songs in the last several years. He has quickly become well-known in the music community in the Uxbridge/Markham/Stouffville area which has led to the performances referred to above. His songs are available on Spotify, Apple and YouTube. All these songs were recorded at Chalet Studio in Uxbridge where he has just completed recording six new songs, the first of which, “River”, was released in late December, with the rest to follow in coming months. Paul also has a large repertoire of covers, including songs by artists such as The Beatles, Neil Young, Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot and James Taylor.

The original songs Paul has written show influences of folk and country music as well as rock ’n’ roll. As a category, it is likely best described as Americana, that wide range of music which probably began with The Band and is now occupied by such artists as Jason Isbell, Gillian Welch, Blue Rodeo, Emmylou Harris, Ryan Adams, Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams. Paul enjoys all these artists’ work and his own songs no doubt reflect their influence.
